Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 1 John 4:7
This part of 1 John reminds me of the verses I chose to be read at my confirmation. In the Lutheran tradition, I was confirmed at age 14 on Pentecost Sunday. Each of us who were confirmed had to pick Bible verses to be read as part of our service. While I cannot remember the exact verses I choose, I know they were from 1 John and were all about love.
Recently I watched two films on Netflix -- "Come Sunday" and "Ram Dass, Going Home." Both movies spoke about love and about how tremendously difficult it is to love others unconditionally.
Our reading from 1 John reminds us that it is through love that we are born of God. it is through love that we know God.
As you finish your week, I pray that you will give love and receive love...
Love, Rebecca+
