This Sunday (May 6, 2018) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen's

As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. John 15:9

Recently I was in a discussion about the the meaning of the word, "abide." Some suggested it was an old fashioned word that had little meaning for a younger generation. Immediately, I remembered the hymn, "Abide With me, Fast Falls the Eventide." I have such fond memories of singing this hymn in church, especially hearing my pastor sing this hymn with fervor.

Here is a beautiful rendition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmjuqZSH_aY

One of my favorite books on the Gospel of John is Drawn into the Mystery of Jesus through the Gospel of John by Jean Vanier. Vanier says,

"To abide or dwell in Jesus is ito make our home in him
and to let Jesus make his home in us." (p. 272)

This beautiful hymn captures our need to abide in Jesus, because when we do so and when Jesus abides in us, we are comforted beyond all reason.

Blessings as you finish your week!

Love, Rebecca+
