This Sunday

Parlor People and Godly Play for children and youth

Michele Neibert, Parish Administrator September 04, 2019
This Sunday (September 8, 2019) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Collect for Proper 18

Our prayer this week reminds us that there is little to nothing that we do on our own. I remember the first time I led a larger organization. The staff was small and the services provided were large. Some days, I'd feel very panicky and afraid I didn't know how to handle things. I had to step back and realize that the "lie" I told myself was that "I had to do it all by myself."

Instead, I needed to remind myself that I didn't have to do it alone. I never had to do anything all by myself. That allowed me to reach out to others, whether I knew them or not, and ask for help and guidance. I found my peers in similar situations very supportive.

My initial insistence that I needed to do anything all by myself was a result of pride and thinking I needed to confide in my own strength only. The organization was better off when I reached out to others.

And that's how it is with God. We are much better off when we trust in God and acknowledge that the outcomes are very different when we put our trust in God.

Love, Rebecca+
