This Sunday

Michele Neibert, Parish Administrator April 14, 2021
This Sunday (April 18, 2021) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Collect for Third Sunday of Easter, p. 224, Book of Common Prayer

Dody Matthias, a wonderful mentor to me, used to say that eating together was the second most intimate thing we do as human beings. She warned that we needed to be very careful about who we shared a meal with. I think we all know this on some level. Haven't we sorely missed our coffee hour during this pandemic time? Yes, we linger after the service on Zoom and it's just not the same as sharing coffee and drink and some wonderful food. That time and the conversation is very different. Something about sharing food together....

It seems this was also true during Jesus' time. Jesus comes in his resurrected body and visits his faithful followers. What does he do? He shares a meal with them or he breaks bread with them. It is in this sharing of a meal that they truly know it is Jesus.

It is in the intimacy of sharing a meal together that we know more about each other. It is in the intimacy of sharing a meal that we are seen and known. That is why we value our communion together.

We have done our best to share these intimate times with the necessary restrictions and precautions we must take. We do this because we care deeply for each other. We use the imperfect means during this pandemic, because we must have connections with each other.

Love, Rebecca+

Shaped by Faith Celebrating our Stories NEW DATES Wednesday, April 28, May 5, 12, 19 & 26, 6 -7pm
The stories of our faith are rooted in transformation. As we continue walking this season of seemingly unprecedented change, we want to create space to hear again the stories of how our faith communities have charted these waters. Originally scheduled for Saturday, May 22, we are shifting to five online workshops on Wednesday evenings in late April and May. Topics will include preserving oral history, creating parish history exhibits, writing your parish history, and creating and maintaining a parish archive. Workshop leaders will be announced soon; you may pick and choose which sessions are most relevant to you and your community.
Please contact The Rev. Canon Chris Streeter with any Shaped by Faith questions by email: cstreeter@diocesecpa.org

The Equal Exchange cart in the Undercroft features fresh olive oil from Palestine and an assortment of our favorite candy bars. If you would like additional items, we can order them for you. Please contact Jane Hoover or the office.
