This Sunday

Godly Play and Kay Cramer leads the Parlor People discussion

Secretary April 05, 2018
This Sunday (April 8, 2018) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen's

Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. Acts 4:32

This sentence gives me pause. I look around my 2-bedroom, 4-room with basement and attic house and wow, I have a lot of stuff for one person. I try to imagine that it is all held in common with all of you...that I don't own any of it. My brain shuts down just trying to think about it.

I do admire communities who do this. A number of years ago, I learned about the Bruderhof Commune. They had a bookstore and coffeehouse near Farmington, PA. They are a Christian community with a number of locations in the Pittsburgh area, as well as other places in the United States and some other countries. They follow this verse of Acts. I find their community and their work interesting, even as I do not feel called to join them.

Being part of our church community allows us to get a little closer to this verse in Acts. We may not share all of our possessions in common; however, through our offerings and our time, we do support each other and our community in ways we could not do as individuals.

Now, I guess it's time for some more spring cleaning....

Blessings as you finish your week!

Love, Rebecca+
