This Sunday

secretary August 22, 2018
This Sunday (August 26, 2018) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Even heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you, much less this house that I have built! I Kings 8:27

Many of you have remarked how beautiful the church looks since it has been painted. A friend from Kentucky even said the church looked so friendly and inviting. We can take pride in our ability to maintain our church building and grounds. We can be grateful for the financial resources, as well as the people power to do so.

I believe sacred space is important for healthy communities and our church represents that sacred space. In such beautiful surroundings our sense of the presence of God is heightened. We can hear God's voice guiding us.

As this verse from the prayer of King Solomon reminds us, however, no building consecrated to God can contain God. While our beautiful building is important to us as a place to gather and to worship God, we must go into the world where God is also.

God is in every place we go. I remember one day receiving a blessing from a woman as I shopped in Home Depot! She commented about how lovely my face was and how she perceived that God was with me.

So we rejoice in our beautiful worship space, even as we go out into the world to meet God.

Blessings as you finish your week!

Love, Rebecca+
