Grant, O merciful God, that your Church, being gathered together in unity by your Holy Spirit, may show forth your power among all peoples, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect for Proper 16, Book of Common Prayer, p. 232-233
Power has so many connotations or maybe it is the use or misuse of power that makes the word loaded with emotion. Our Collect this Sunday first of all reminds us that we who follow Jesus Christ gather together in unity by the work of the Holy Spirit. Well, we could discuss what that looks like for days.
But then it says that through this unity and work of the Holy Spirit, we will show forth God's power among all peoples. What does that even look like for us as individuals and for us as a parish?
We have an example of what happens when we work together to support young people in our communitiy through Join Hands. That's God's power working. Maybe others see you as evidencing God's power just in the way you live your life; that is, a way that loves God and loves your neighbor as yourself.
May God's power continue to show forth through us!
Love,
Rebecca+
