Hallelujah!
Happy are they who fear the Lord *
and have great delight in his commandments! Psalm 112:1
Being happy is something that has been written about throughout the ages. Aristotle understood the "happy" life to be discovering the best way to lead our life and to give it meaning. Our Declaration of Independence states that one of our inalienable rights is "the pursuit of happiness." Happiness at the time was similar to Aristotle's understanding of well-being or human flourishing. These understandings included a moral and often religious dimension. They weren't about individual pursuit at the expense of the community.
I can't say I've always followed every commandment from God to the best of my ability; and I can say that the more I follow God's commandments, the more peace and contentment I have in my life. How about you?
I am grateful for knowing God and having a community throughout my life that has nourished my faith and guided me. I thank God for the many people and communities that have helped me be in awe or fear of God. In these communities, individuals and their teaching, I have come to delight in God's commandments.
Many blessings as you finish your week!
Love, Rebecca+

Latino/Latina Heritage Month to be observed Sunday, September 11. This is a reminder that we are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We will say The Lord's Prayer in Spanish and sing some new hymns from Latino traditions.
You can start practicing now:
Padre nuestro, que estas in el cielo
santificado sea tu Nombre,
