A couple of years ago, a friend of mine was part of a group that started a special Facebook page. The group wanted it to be a place where people could give things away and people could ask for things they needed with no judgment or questions asked. Members of the group were told that things wouldn't always work out that someone would take what they offered or that someone would give them what they asked. Members were told to just scroll by any requests they did not want to support.
However, there must be something in our nature that finds it most difficult to part with our money. That's understandable. We work hard to earn it. We want to give it for a good cause. We also want to be thanked when we give a donation. We set up our own tally sheets for who is deserving or what is a "good cause."
As you can imagine, the Facebook group has had issues of people making judgmental comments when people in the group ask for something they need. People don't just scroll by. Some become upset when their request is not fulfilled. The group has had to take some time to discern how they will continue into the future.
Our Psalm this week has the line, "He does not give his money in hope of gain..." or in hope of being recognized or thanked, we might say. God gives freely of God's love and blessing and God especially knows that we haven't always done the right thing or anything to deserve that unconditional grace and love. We are encouraged to do likewise.

Citizen's Fire Company invites everyone to the 20 year 9/11 Memorial observance on Sunday, September 12, beginning at noon. From noon until 2:00pm, emergency equipment will be on display on S. 3rd and Mulberry Streets. At 2:00pm, the service will begin. The main speaker is Ed Mann, PA Fire Commissioner during 9/11.
