Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
I love our Collects each week. They are beautiful prayers and some are hundreds of years old. In this week's Collect, we ask God to "graft in our hearts the love of your Name...." I immediately thought of the little orchard my father had. Often fruit trees are grafted. The grafting occurs for many reasons, but essentially, the fruit stock is grafted into a root stock that is healthier or stronger. The end result is usually a better crop of fruit and more life for the resulting tree.
The same is true when the love of God's name is grafted into our hearts. We have strong and healthy roots. We produce better fruit. We are changed.
Many blessings as you finish your week!
Love, Rebecca+
