O God, the strength of all who put their trust in you: Mercifully accept our prayers; and because in our weakness we can do nothing good without you, give us the help of your grace, that in keeping your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect for Sixth Sunday After Epiphany, p. 216 Book of Common Prayer
Our Collect this Sunday, like many, comes from a place of humility. We acknowledge that we must rely upon God. We ask for grace or courteous good will from God. When I hear about the grace of God, I think it includes some forgiveness and mercy, too. We try to do our best and we know we may fall short. We ask God to be patient with us and generous in forgiving our faults.
We affirm we are living in ways that keep the commandments. We acknowledge that doing so requires not only the will to do so, but also our action.
Today I found a beautiful song called "Good Trouble" that addresses the brokeness that is caused by racism. https://youtu.be/lx3FodgHElc
It speaks to the need to take action to live God's commandments and the refrain gave me so much hope:
But there's a love that's still turning over tables
And a love making blinded eyes see
There's a healing that's waiting in the water
That's still making saints out of rebels
My God is still making good trouble
Love and healing and the grace of God - Good Trouble!
Love,
Rebecca+
