This Sunday (February 14, 2021) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect for Last Sunday After the Epiphany, p. 217, Book of Common Prayer

This is our last Sunday after Epiphany. We are getting ready to enter into the season of Lent. We are in what is called a liminal space between times. Almost like we have one foot in our Epiphany celebration and the other closer to Lent.

Our Collect for this Sunday bridges these two seasons. It reminds us that Christ is the light of the world, even as it acknowledges the cross we must bear in this life. What crosses are you bearing right now? Is it worry about a loved one? Is it worry about your own health? Is it the grief of a relationship that has ended? Is it the stress during this pandemic?

While we often try to be quiet about the things we bear, bearing them alone, we have a church family who can help us bear our cross. That is the beauty and necessity of our community. Yes, we cannot meet in person and yet we can pray and surround each other with love. Share the cross you bear with us or put yourself on the prayer list. Know that we pray for each other unceasingly.

Love, Rebecca+
