O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect, Last Sunday After the Epiphany, Book of Common Prayer p. 217
This Sunday is the last in our season of Epiphany. It is the pivot time. We go from our joy in Jesus' birth and the great gifts of illumination that following him brings and gives to the world, to a time of deep reflection about the many ways his teachings are challenging and so often rejected.
Our Collect reflects this both/and time...that the illumination of Jesus may strengthen us through the tough times...that we,too, will be transformed in ways visible to those who meet us. Our transformation and bearing the illumination of Jesus, has the power to change those around us in profound ways.
Love,
Rebecca+
