God made a convenant...an agreement with Abram and Sarai and part of the enactment of the covenant meant name changes for both of them. Abram became Abraham and Sarai became Sarah.
Do you know why your parents named you the name you have? Was the name a family name or were you named after a popular celebrity of the day? My grandfather's middle name was Jennings, because when he was born, William Jennings Bryan was running for President. My father's middle name was Delano; he was born just two days before Franklin Delano Roosevelt won the presidency for the first time. A portrait of FDR hung in my father's home office.
My parents named me Rebecca Sue. First of all as was the tradition in the Roman Catholic faith of my mother, you gave your child a Biblical name, so mine was Rebecca. They named me Sue as a middle name and throughout my childhood called me Becky. Since I was born in Arkansas, but we moved to PA when I was six weeks old, my parents believed the name Becky Sue would always remind me I was born in the South.
Our names have meaning. They link us to our families who gave us our names. As we live our lives, our names identify us and have meaning to others.
When people hear your name, what do they think and say about you? May they experience your love and reflection of Jesus Christ.

Supper begins at 5:30, with an informal service beginning at 6:15pm.
