Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. During this season, we not only see Christ as having been sent by God as light to the world; we also discover how we are light to the world. Our Collect this Sunday reminds us that one of the ways we shine our light is through God's Word and Sacraments. The Word comes from our readings in the Bible and also, I think, other things we read and receive.
The Sacraments are baptism and eucharist. While many of us do not remember our baptism, because we were baptized as babies or young children, we renew our baptismal promises throughout the year, so are reminded of them. We just renewed them last Sunday.
Eucharist is something we have nearly every Sunday. A key feature is our sharing a meal as a community. We gather together as a parish. It is not something we do alone. We illumine the world through the time we spend in prayer and gathering with each other.
When we are centered in the Word and sacraments, we shine with the radiance of Christ's glory. What a wonderful vision.

We will be collecting specific items each month for the Food Bank. In January food items are Pasta, Pasta Sauce, and Parmesan Cheese. The personal care items are Shampoo, Body Soap and Hand Soap.
Epipha-Tea February 11, 1-3pm at the church (Snow Date is February 18)
The women of the church will hold the Epipha-Tea in the Undercroft on Saturday, February 11, from 1-3pm. Wear your best hat and bring an appetizer to share. All women and girls are invited to attend.
