He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
This Sunday our reading from Micah is a very familiar one. The prophet asks, "...and what does the Lord require of you." The words are familiar, "...to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God."
Such beautiful words to this piece of scripture. Easy to remember and to say. Challenging to live.
As humans, we find doing justice demanding. What does justice look like? We like to think of ourselves as being fair and sometimes we miss the barriers that stop or hinder people from living full lives. Sometimes our attitudes get in the way of doing justice.
Then we are told to love kindness. That can be so wonderful and easy at times, especially when we are with people and in situations that we love.
Then we are to walk humbly with God. Humbleness, I think, requires a level of our not knowing everything and of being open to learn new things. We need to be open to God's guidance and teaching.
Many blessings as you live in a way that meets what God requires.

Newport Public Library Used Book Sale, Thursday, February 2 – Saturday, February 4, 10am – 6pm.
Collections for Neighbor Helping Neighbor Food Bank
We will be collecting specific items each month for the Food Bank. In January food items are Pasta, Pasta Sauce, and Parmesan Cheese. The personal care items are Shampoo, Body Soap and Hand Soap. In February we will collect Soup, Raman Noodles, Chef Boyardee and Tooth Paste and Tooth Brushes.
Help fill our community food pantry!
Items that seem to be taken first include canned pasta meals, soups, and macaroni and cheese. Vegetables don't seem to get taken. Also, please don't use this as an opportunity to clear out your pantry if at all possible.
