Almighty and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth: Mercifully hear the supplications of your people, and in our time grant us your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Collect for 4th Sunday After Epiphany, p. 215, Book of Common Prayer
I was really struck by the plea to "in our time grant us your peace." Last Sunday we heard from Lt. Col. Terrance Stanton (Ret.) about his time in Afghanistan with the US Army. Then this week the news is full of stories about what is happening on the Russian/Ukraine border and North Korea setting off nuclear bombs.
Peace seems so elusive amongst we humans, doesn't it? We certainly have difficult times getting along with each other. God's peace can offer assurance and hope. God's peace can offer calm and strength. Even when there are wars and rumors of wars, it is God's peace that can guide us through it all.
Love,
Rebecca+
