This Sunday (July 16, 2017) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

This Sunday

The Rev. Rebecca Myers July 12, 2017

Your word is a lantern to my feet *
and a light upon my path. Psalm 119:105

For many years, I went tent camping over the July 4th holiday. There were often up to 20 of us -- adults and children.

Living in the city of Harrisburg at that time, on busy Second Street, I wasn't used to the darkness and quiet of the night. No light, except from the stars and moon. A flashlight was a necessity. One of the first pieces of true camping equipment we bought was a camp lantern.

Otherwise, if you took a walk at night, often to go to the bathroom, you could easily trip on tree roots. OR maybe you would run into racoons or skunks foraging in the campground. That lantern at our feet saved us from difficult times.

And so it is with God's Word. God's Word reminds us how God enters into human lives; how God loves us; how God forgives us; how God expects us to live together with each other. Thus, the pitfalls we face are avoided or at least minimized.

Blessings as you finish your week!

Love, Rebecca+
