Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while

He said to them, ‘Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.’ For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. Mark 6:31

Last week I was fortunate to be on a retreat on the Schooner Lewis R. French. This schooner was launched in 1871 and is the oldest commercial sailing vessel in the United States. During the summer, it takes cruises of no more than 21 people in Penobscot Bay. This particular 4-day cruise was a retreat.

What a beautiful and relaxing time. We had no particular destination. We went where the wind took us and anchored each night. There was lots of sun and beautiful stars each night and no cell phone service! The food was wonderful, cooked on a wood stove. Yes, the sleeping quarters were certainly interesting. Overall, it was an amazing and wonderful retreat. A friend who saw me after I returned home, said she could tell I was very relaxed.

This Sunday we hear about how busy Jesus and his disciples were during his ministry. Word had gotten out about the healing Jesus and the disciples provided. They were so busy, they didn't even have time to eat. Jesus' words to them: Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while. Certainly words many of us need to heed in our time and in our busy lives.

Many blessings as you finish your week!

Love, Rebecca
