This Sunday

Observance of LGBTQIA Pride Month. Morning Prayer online or by phone

Michele Neibert, Parish Administrator June 10, 2020
This Sunday (June 14, 2020) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Collect for Proper 6, BCP p. 230

This Sunday our Collect reminds us that we are to "proclaim" God's truth with boldness and "minister" God's justice with compassion. The message of Jesus Christ to love God, love our neighbor and love ourselves, is shorthand and simple, yet extremely challenging. It is especially challenging, because it is not always a message that is welcomed by the world.

That's why we pray this prayer at least once each year. Because we do not know how the message of God's truth will be received, we are fearful to say it. Sometimes we don't fully understand God's truth, either. Sometimes we are learning more and more about God's truth and don't even know to proclaim it boldly. The same is true with ministering God's justice. We are not always clear what justice is or are fearful to say what God's justice is.

We need to be constantly learning. Yes, there are plenty of resources - written or movies or podcasts - that help us understand more. However, I believe the most wonderful thing we have is each other and our parish. We don't ever have to do this learning and this work alone. We learn from each other and support each other.

Praise God for our community and the willingness to proclaim God's truth with boldness and minister God's justice with compassion.

Love, Rebecca+

Please pray for Refugees on June 20, World Refugee Day.
'Prayer for Refugees' as shared by the Refugee Community Center at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator (Allentown), Diocese of Bethlehem.

God our Creator, we ask for your loving presence and for your peace to be with refugees in our local communities and around the world. Be with all who are in fear. Be with those whose lives and livelihoods are under threat, and whose religious freedoms are being compromised. Be with us as we strive to enact your will in our welcome and support of refugees. Be with those in positions of leadership, that their decisions may bend toward peace and not division, and that they might realize the power they hold to do justice. Give us all strength and courage. Equip and empower us to be witnesses to your love – as advocates and as servants, as ministers of welcome and bearers of hope, especially for those seeking refuge. In your Holy name we pray. Amen.

The Diocese is interested in what you think about the changes in worship during this time of pandemic.
They'd like you to take this survey by July 15:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F2FHH7T
