This Sunday

Honoring fathers in all of their forms

This Sunday (June 16, 2019) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

and I [Wisdom] was daily his delight,
rejoicing before him always,

rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the human race. Proverbs 8:30-31

This Sunday is known as Trinity Sunday. We rejoice in the Trinity, the unity in diversity, that is the heart of our faith.

Our reading speaks about "Wisdom" or the Holy Spirit having been with God from the very beginning. Wisdom rejoices in all things - in the earth and delights in the human race.

Sometimes it is a challenge to rejoice in this world. When I lived in Topeka, KS, I learned about a minister from the early 1900s, Charles Monroe Sheldon. He was considered part of the social gospel movement of his time. For his Sunday evening services, Sheldon wrote a multi-part story, which was later published in a book, In His Steps or "What would Jesus Do?"

Rev. Sheldon thought the newspapers of the time focused too much upon the negative. For a week, he took over the content for the Topeka Daily Capital, focusing on more positive stories, especially evidencing "What would Jesus do?" The circulation of the paper tripled and overwhelmed the printing presses, so the editions had to be printed in larger cities like Chicago and New York. People were hungry for these stories showing the delight of the human race.

What have you seen this week that makes you rejoice in God's inhabited world and delight in the human race?

Love,

Rebecca+

The Episcopal Home is an affordable home that provides personal care, while allowing residents to live as independently as possible. They meet the needs of the total person by providing comfort emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually.  With a donation of $25, you can assist in the care of a resident for one day. A generous donation of $175 can assist with the care of a resident for one week.  Envelopes are available at the back of the church.

The Episcopal Home Residents are also in need of donations that help make a resident’s day better and brighter.  This month we are asking for donations of:
Depends Undergarments (women’s M, L, XL)
