This Sunday

Spring Ahead! and Observance of Women's History Month

Michele Neibert, Parish Administrator March 09, 2022
This Sunday (March 13, 2022) at the Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect for Second Sunday in Lent, p. 218, Book of Common Prayer

The way this prayer is written strikes me as interesting. It seems to be talking about others who have gone astray.

Now, traditionally Lent was a time for "sinners" to return with penitent hearts and be forgiven and welcomed back into the community. Yet, haven't we all gone astray? Lent can be a time when we stop and recognize the ways we have moved away from God and even the ways we still move away from God. In other words, the ways we go and have gone astray.

We pray not only for others, but also that we may have penitent hearts and steadfast faith. We pray not only for others, but also that we may hold fast to the uncheangeable truth of Jesus Christ.

Love,

Rebecca+

Your Donation to the "Love of Learning" Scholarship Will Help More Students
Our goal is a permanent fund of $100,000 so the earnings allow us to give more scholarships.  Having teachers who are Black or Brown in a classroom has proven to be effective in increasing educational attainment for children who are Black or Brown. We are asking you to commit to giving $1,000 over the next 5 years to allow us to provide even more scholarships. That's $200 per year or $50 per quarter or $17 per month. Give directly to the scholarship online through The Foundation for Enhancing Communities at:  https://www.tfec.org/scholarships/dr-george-h-and-hettie-s-love-love-of-learning-scholarship-fund/ or mail a check payable to TFEC - Love of Learning Scholarship, 200 N. 3rd St., 8th Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17101.
