I have loved bread my whole life. You could say it is my kryptonite. I have many fond memories of waking up to freshly-baked Italian bread and eating it for breakfast, warm from the oven with lots of butter.
We know that in Jesus' time, bread was an important and staple food. We read about unleavened bread during the Israelites' flight from Egypt. Jesus and his disciples shared bread at the Last Supper and our Eucharist service is centered on the bread and wine. After Jesus resurrection, it was the breaking of the bread with disciples in Emmaus that opened their eyes.
So the image of bread as necessary for life is used to help us understand how following Jesus and living in his teachings is necessary for life. This Sunday we pray that this necessary bread will live in us and we in him...that we will be one. May we know this deep love of Jesus and understand it as the true bread of life.

Flowers for Easter, April 4.
Donations for Easter flowers will be taken through March 28. If you have an envelope, you can use for the donation, including marking if they are “in honor of” or “in memory of” someone.
We are creating special Holy Week and Easter boxes for each family.
Among other items, they will contain small containers of bread and wine for communion on Maundy Thursday and Easter. They will be ready after our church service on March 14. If you can come by the church on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday to pick up your box, please let Rebecca know.
If you are available to deliver a box to a member of the parish, please let Rebecca know.
