On Wednesday I am leading the discussion time at the Newport Ministerium Lenten series. My topic is The Way of Love: Prayer. I have been thinking a lot about prayer.
One time of day that I definitely pray is just before I turn over and fall asleep. I am finally resting from the day and I talk to God about my day. Sometimes it's just one thought or prayer. Sometimes I remember a particular person and pray for them. Sometimes it's a summary of my day. I guess when I pray is not really all that unusual, since the Psalmist speaks about remembering God in this way.
When do you pray? Is there a particular time of day? Sometimes I'll be going through my day and someone will pop into my mind, so I pray right then or there. Sometimes it's about a concern or issue in our world.
How do you pray? Is there a particular prayer you pray? Is there a particular place you pray?
And as we were reminded when Susan Rice led our discussion on this topic a few weeks ago, it's not only we talking to God, but also we listening for what God would tell us.
There are many resources to help you in your prayer life. There are lots of prayers and devotional services in our Book of Common Prayer. We have a labyrinth and there are even finger labyrinths. We begin our Tuesday Taize' service with 20 minutes of centering prayer and the Taize' service is very meditative.
During this holy time of Lent, I pray your prayerlife is deep and strong.

Donations for Easter flowers will be taken through April 14. If you have an envelope, you can use for the donation, including marking if they are “in honor of” or “in memory of” someone. There are also envelopes at the back of the church.
