Then I acknowledged my sin to you, *
and did not conceal my guilt.
I said," I will confess my transgressions to the Lord." *
Then you forgave me the guilt of my sin.
Psalm 32:5-6
These verses remind me of what my parents taught me: Always tell the truth. While you still might get in trouble, you won't get in as big of trouble as when you lie.
Sometimes it is hard to tell the truth. We want to keep a certain image of ourselves. Maybe at the time something seemed right, but later, we realize we should not have made the decision we made, or we know we will have some unwelcome consequences, so we try to hide what we did.
And if God can see everything we do, why do we even need to confess? We confess, because confessing makes us accountable. When we confess, we no longer hide what we have done. We face reality. It is important to acknowledge and own what we have done. It helps us to repent or change our behavior.
And when we confess our sin and acknowledge what we have done, there is forgiveness. We can start over again. We no longer need to feel guilty. A burden is lifted from us.
Yes, acknowledging our sin can be painful and forgiveness brings joy.
Love,
Rebecca+
