Happy are they whose transgressions are forgiven, *
and whose sin is put away! Psalm 32:1
During Lent we'll be talking a lot about forgiveness at our Parlor People sessions. We're using The Book of Forgiving by Desmond Tutu and Mpho Tutu. Our March 26 session will focus on when we need forgiveness and forgiving ourselves.
A difficult part of needing to be forgiven is to even acknowledge that our actions or our words have created harm. This is especially difficult if our intention was to do something good and helpful. We didn't intend to do harm, yet the person experienced us as doing harm. That is such a tough situation.
Obviously, acknowledging the harm we've done is the first step in seeking forgiveness. We may have no idea we've caused someone harm. Once we realize the harm done, we may want to argue that we were misunderstood or that our intentions were good. Yet, if we are willing to acknowledge the harm done, we can move forward to repairing the relationship or connection.
We may not always be forgiven by the person or group; however, we can be happy and blessed because we've taken responsibility, hopefully learned something and at least been forgiven by God.
Blessings as you finish your week!
Love, Rebecca+
