This Sunday is known as Shepherd Sunday. It seems like I've been preaching quite a lot about sheep and shepherds in the past month.
Our Psalm is the most recognized, beloved, and memorized of the Psalms. It is comforting and reminds us that no matter what we are going through, God is with us every step of the way. One of my favorite sung versions of this Psalm is by Bobby McFerrin. As he thought about this Psalm, he remembered his mother and the women who had shaped his life, so his version portrays God in the feminine.
This is appropriate for us this Sunday, which is Mother's Day. We know mothers come to us in many forms. We have our biological mothers and then so many others who have loved and cared for us like a mother. And our many mothers model God for us.
Give praise and thanks for the love of our Mother God and for her emanation in our earthly mothers.

The Perry County Relay will be held June 21 and 22 at the Newport High School football field. The opening ceremony is at 6pm, Friday, June 21, but walking (and lots of activity!) begins at noon.
