They are like trees planted by streams of water,
bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither; *
everything they do shall prosper. Psalm 1:3
As I read this Psalm we will say this Sunday, I immediately thought about the song, We Shall Not Be Moved. Here is a version of Mavis Staples singing it. https://youtu.be/UcDpmzQh3YU It is believed the song is a Spiritual and was written down in the early 1900s. The song was taken up by various social movements, including the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
We have seen those trees planted by the waters. They are usually big and strong; not easily toppled over. It is so easy to get tossed around by the cares and concerns of our world. We can be thrown off by what life brings to us. Sometimes our faith definitely wanes.
Our Psalmist reminds us to be firmly planted in the Word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ. That's what truly feeds us, making us strong and unmoveable.
Love, Rebecca+
