Michele Neibert, Parish Administrator May 21, 2020
This Sunday (May 24, 2020) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. Collect for Seventh Sunday of Easter, BCP p. 226

This is our last Sunday in Easter. Jesus has appeared to the disciples a number of times, and he has also been preparing them that he will soon be gone. Yet, he promises that there will be an advocate that will come and be with us to guide us. Our Collect for this Sunday says it well... "do not leave us comfortless."

Yes, there are plenty of times in our lives when we are uncomfortable, sometimes even distraught. We are certainly living through a time that is disrupting everything we have known. "Do not leave us comfortless," we pray. Do not leave us in the place where there is no comfort to be found. What a difficult and challenging place that would be.

Where are you finding comfort these days? What are you doing during this time? What helps you feel the strengthening of the Holy Spirit? Is it reading scripture or meditations each day? Is it connecting with family and friends or attending our Zoom gatherings? Is it the new routine you've started to build for yourself? Is it being out in nature or tending your garden?

Do not leave us comfortless, we cry. God hears us. May you be strengthened and comforted by the Holy Spirit.

Love, Rebecca+
