Let your ways be known upon earth, *
your saving health among all nations. Psalm 67:2
So much of the Bible is included in The Book of Common Prayer. Maybe you've heard this story:
"An old Episcopal grandmother finally decided to read the Bible. She purchased a large-print edition and read it cover-to-cover. When she finished, she pulled the rector aside at coffee hour and confided, “I really enjoyed reading the Bible, but I was surprised how much it quotes the Book of Common Prayer!”
Once again, this Sunday the portion of our Psalm - verse 2 - is quoted as part of Suffrages (prayers) A in Morning Prayer (p. 98). Over the years, many of us memorize parts of the liturgy. I pretty much know Suffrages A from Morning Prayer because of the many times I said those during seminary.
If someone says Psalm 67,verse 2, I will automatically respond with the second half of the verse. Yet, I could not have told you where this was in the Bible. When we steep ourselves in our liturgy, we steep ourselves in the wisdom of our ancient text, the Bible.
Blessings as you finish your week!
Love, Rebecca+
