This Sunday instead of a Psalm, we will say Canticle 13, A Song of Praise, which is a portion from the Apocryphal book, Azariah and The Three Jews, Chapter 1:29-34. We sang this Canticle during Lent. It is a beautiful canticle of praise to God.
Yet, this canticle arises out of the story we read in Daniel where King Nebuchadnezzar put Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego into a hot furnace because they refused to worship the golden statue the King made; they only worshiped God. The furnace was so hot that even the people who put these three men in the fire, died from the heat. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were bound at their hands and feet when they were thrown into the fire.
Shadrach, whose Jewish name was Azariah, prays to God. What the King and the attendants then saw was four men, unbound, walking around in the flames. An Angel of the Lord came and the flames were as a moist wind. The three men were not harmed at all. They, then sang this song of praise, which is on page 90 of the Book of Common Prayer.

Glory to you, Lord God of our fathers; *
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for the radiance of your holy Name; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.

Glory to you, seated between the Cherubim; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.
Glory to you, beholding the depths; *
in the high vault of heaven, glory to you.
Glory to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.
Even in tremendous trial, they sang a song of praise. May we do likewise.

Volunteers and Donations needed for St. Barnabas Program. *Note date change.
Nativity will once again be providing breakfast and lunch for 100 children and staff at the St. Barnabas program, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Harrisburg, on Tuesday, July 3. We will also provide snacks for the entire week. Donations of food and snacks are needed, either items or money to purchase the food. Please see Wendy Day if you can help out.
