O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. Collect for the Seventh Sunday of Easter, p. 226, Book of Common Prayer
Thursday was Ascension Day, the observance of Christ's ascending into heaven. Jesus promises in a number of places that an advocate or Holy Spirit will come and be with us always.
"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you." John 14:26
Most of us know how hard it is to not see our loved ones in a physical or recognizable form. We understand how the followers of Jesus wanted him to stay with them. We understand our Collect that prays: "Do not leave us comfortless...."
We pray this Sunday for the presence of the Holy Spirit, as we prepare to celebrate Pentecost on May 15. We know it is the Holy Spirit who strengthens us and helps us live as followers of Jesus Christ.
This Sunday, we live with Jesus in heaven and in anticipation of the descending of the Holy Spirit.
Many blessings as you finish your week!
Love, Rebecca+
