God is our refuge and strength, *
a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
This Sunday we read a well-loved Psalm. Most of us probably know this first verse by heart.
Sometimes trouble comes unexpectedly. We are shocked and feel unprepared and taken by surprise. This verse is like a mantra that can help us focus and know what we might need to do next.
It is something we can say often, whether there are troubles bothering us or not, because then it gets implanted deep within us, providing some strength when tough times come.
It reminds us that there is not much of anything in this world that requires us to do something on our own. God is always present at the very least. We can always talk to God. And we know that God speaks through others, too, who come our way to help and support us.
We are never truly alone.

Collections for Neighbor Helping Neighbor Food Bank
We will be collecting one specific item each month for the Food Bank. The November items are Juice and Canned Fruit.
Today, Friends of Newport Farmer's Market, parking lot at the Church of the Nativity, noon - 3pm.
This Christmas, Join Hands Ministry invites you to partner with them in support of our elderly residents in our local nursing homes by purchasing gifts or visit with the residents.

Joy to the Burg Albums and Greeting Cards are for sale!
Each year the local arts community rallies to support the street homelessness outreach work of our ministry partner Christian Churches United under the festive heading of Joy to the Burg. This year, musicians have released a 33 song Christmas album available for download. And NEW for 2022, local visual artists have contributed artwork for a set of 8 greeting cards. Albums and Greeting Cards are available to purchase at www.JoyToTheBurg.com and select area retailers. Karns stores are carrying the album download packages, see the Joy to the Burg website for other retailers.
Help People in Need when you buy your Groceries!
See Gail Shull or Pat Szabo to purchase cards in various amounts to use at Giant, Weis, or Karn’s Stores or stop by the office. 5% of the cost of each card stays with the church and is used for outreach and mission projects.
Help fill our community food pantry!
Items that seem to be taken first include canned pasta meals, soups, and macaroni and cheese. Vegetables don't seem to get taken. Also, please don't use this as an opportunity to clear out your pantry if at all possible.
Join Hands in Need of Toiletry Items
Adult Incontinent Products, Combs, Hair brushes, Hair care products, Deodorant, Diapers and Wipes - sizes 1 to 6, Feminine hygiene products, Lotion, Medical supplies such as band-aids & cough drops, Mouthwash, Paper Towels, Shampoo/Conditioner, Shaving Cream/Razors, Soap/shower gel, Tissues, Toilet Paper and Toothpaste/Toothbrushes.
Join Altar Guild!
As an altar guild member, you will be on a team of 2-3 people to set up the altar and clean up after the service. Your team will serve once a month, as well as once a year on the 5th Sunday. There may also be services during the week for Ash Wednesday or Holy Week or Christmas Eve. Training provided. Speak to one of the Altar Guild members or contact Michele if you would like to join.
Volunteers Needed to Help with Money in Your Pocket Free Tax Prep Program
Volunteers are needed to offer free tax preparation to help working families receive the federal and state tax credits they are eligible for. The service is offered through the Money in Your Pocket (MIYP) program, a community partnership led by United Way of the Capital Region that is committed to the economic stability of local families. No previous experience is required and training is provided. Volunteers are also needed to serve as greeters. For more info, contact Heidi Neuhaus at 717-724-4055 or hneuhaus@uwcr.org
Volunteers Needed to Help with Newport Public Library Secret Santa - December 1 - 24. The Secret Santa project at the Newport Public Library lets children find and wrap gifts for their family members. Families have appointments, so there is only 1 family in the shopping area at a time. Volunteers are needed to help children with choosing gifts and with helping them wrap the gifts. Volunteers serve for 2-4 hour shifts, which occur during regular library hours. If you are available to help, please contact the library at 717-567-6860.
