The Rev. Rebecca S. Myers, MSW November 19, 2020
This Sunday (November 22, 2020) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

Come, let us sing to the Lord;

let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1

When I was at General Theological Seminary, we often sang Psalm 95 as part of sung Morning Prayer. Psalm 95 is known as the Venite. Venite is the latin word for "come." Psalms are known by their first word. Whenever I see Psalm 95, I want to sing it.

No doubt about it, Psalm 95 is one of great joy and thanksgiving. It is a song of praise. The Psalm reminds us of all of God's creation. It provides directions for how to approach our wonderful creator: with joy, singing, loud shouts, thanksgiving, bending of the knee, bowing, and kneeling.

It reminds us of our relationship with God. We are God's and God is our creator.

A metaphor used for us is one of sheep and like sheep, we sometimes go astray. We move away from the shepherd. We can lose our way. Yet, God is always there. We can always choose to return to God. In doing so, we come with great joy to the Rock of our Salvation.

Come, let us sing to the Lord!

Love, Rebecca+
