Happy and blessed Thanksgiving!
This Sunday is our church new year and the first Sunday of Advent. In Advent, we prepare ourselves once again for the coming of Christ as a newborn baby.
One of the names for Jesus is the Prince of Peace and Advent is a time when we think about how to bring peace. How can we bring peace within ourselves, within our parish, within our community and within the world? Our Psalmist was writing about the wish for peace in Jerusalem. The watch towers would be quiet. There would be no harm. All would be safe.
During this time of contemplation and anticipation, may we pray for the peace of the world. May we pray for how we can be peace to the world.

Remembering Matthew Shepard, December 1, 7am and 7pm, Washington National Cathedral online. The National Cathedral remembers Matthew Shepard, who was killed in a hate crime against LGBTQ+ people in 1998. Special services are planned in remembrance on the day of his birth. Cookies Needed for Christmas Tree Lighting on December 3.
Newport Revitalization & Preservation Committee are asking local churches to donate cookies. Please identify cookies that have nuts. They can be dropped off at Newport Senior Center Friday or Saturday, (December 2 or 3) after noon.
Join Hands Christmas Gifts should be returned to the church by Sunday, December 4. Help is needed to transport the gifts to Join Hands in New Bloomfield on Monday, December 5. If you can help, please let Darlene Amsler or Gail Shull know.

Flowers for Christmas.
Donations for Christmas flowers will be taken through December 11. If you have an envelope, you can use for the donation, including marking if they are “in honor of” or “in memory of” someone. There are also envelopes at the back of the church.
Collections for Neighbor Helping Neighbor Food Bank
We will be collecting one specific item each month for the Food Bank. The November items are Juice and Canned Fruit.
In December items will be Birthday kits - cake mix, frosting, candles
This Christmas, Join Hands Ministry invites you to partner with them in support of our elderly residents in our local nursing homes by purchasing gifts or visit with the residents.

Joy to the Burg Albums and Greeting Cards are for sale!
Each year the local arts community rallies to support the street homelessness outreach work of our ministry partner Christian Churches United under the festive heading of Joy to the Burg. This year, musicians have released a 33 song Christmas album available for download. And NEW for 2022, local visual artists have contributed artwork for a set of 8 greeting cards. Albums and Greeting Cards are available to purchase at www.JoyToTheBurg.com and select area retailers. Karns stores are carrying the album download packages, see the Joy to the Burg website for other retailers.
The Perry County Commissioners request that all Perry County residents take this short, anonymous survey on your typical commute patterns to Cumberland and Dauphin Counties by December 15.

Volunteers Needed to Help with Newport Public Library Secret Santa, December 1 - 24.
The Secret Santa project at the Newport Public Library lets children find and wrap gifts for their family members. Families have appointments, so there is only 1 family in the shopping area at a time. Volunteers are needed to help children with choosing gifts and with helping them wrap the gifts. Volunteers serve for 2 – 4 hour shifts, which occur during regular library hours. If you are available to help, please contact the library at 717-567-6860.

Adult Incontinent Products, Combs, Hair brushes, Hair care products, Deodorant, Diapers and Wipes - sizes 1 to 6, Feminine hygiene products, Lotion, Medical supplies such as band-aids & cough drops, Mouthwash, Paper Towels, Shampoo/Conditioner, Shaving Cream/Razors, Soap/shower gel, Tissues, Toilet Paper and Toothpaste/Toothbrushes.
Volunteers Needed to Help with Money in Your Pocket Free Tax Prep Program
Volunteers are needed to offer free tax preparation to help working families receive the federal and state tax credits they are eligible for. The service is offered through the Money in Your Pocket (MIYP) program, a community partnership led by United Way of the Capital Region that is committed to the economic stability of local families.
