This Sunday

All Saints Day at St. Stephens. Turn your clocks back 1 hour.

This Sunday (November 7, 2021) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen's

Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. Collect for All Saints Day, p. 245, Book of Common Prayer

This Sunday we observe All Saints' Day. As I read the Collect we read every year on this observance, being knit together stood out for me.

I have done more crocheting than knitting, and have had hand-knit items given to me. I have watched sheep being sheared and then the wool cleaned and finally made into yarn. How amazing is the whole process. Then to take that long "string" and fashion it into something that seems to never wear out and is beautiful and warm and stays together, is a marvel.

Just so, we are like variegated yarn, each with our unique differences, that gets connected in ways that are hard to untangle. We are beautiful and warm and comforting. Hopefully we aren't too scratchy. Jesus Christ is what stitches us together and while we can explain some of this, there is also a mystery to it that we cannot explain.

And it is so hard when one of the pieces is not with us physically any longer. We remember those important and wonderful people this Sunday.

Blessings,

Rebecca+
