This Sunday (October 10, 2021) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

Satisfy us by your loving-kindness in the morning; *
so shall we rejoice and be glad all the days of our life. Psalm 90:14

When I've visited some churches that are predominantly African-American, I'd hear people thank God for waking them up that morning. A member of our parish who is 80 years old says something like waking up each morning is a pleasant surprise. How easily we take for granted that we will wake up in the morning.

The Psalm this Sunday acknowledges the loving-kindness of God each morning. This daily loving-kindness of God provides joy and gladness for us.

Yes, sometimes facing the morning is difficult. We face many challenges and sometimes life is difficult. Sometimes we are not grateful for the morning or the day before us. Joy and gladness seem to elude us.

Hopefully remembering how much we are loved can bring some comfort and guidance. Hopefully knowing our parish is there for us and with us lessens the aloneness we may feel.

I found this song by Bruce Hedrick, "He Woke Me Up This Morning." Here are some of the words

I said He woke me up this mornin’; started me on my way
It don’t matter what the day brings. I go in Jesus name

May you wake up each day reminded that you go in Jesus name.

Blessings,
