What good works have you done this week? I know you have done some. Maybe it was greeting a stranger with your mask on. Or maybe reaching out to a friend to see how they were doing. Maybe you prayed for someone. Maybe you took good care of yourself. Maybe you tended the outdoors. I know you did some good works this week.
Sometimes what we think are good works, may actually not be such. On Saturday, I hope to virtually attend a presentation by the Cumberland County Historical Society about the tragic after effects of the Carlisle Indian School. Carlisle was the first such school formed under the banner of "kill the indian. Save the man." Children were forcibly taken from their families and placed in these schools far away from their homes. Their hair was cut. They were not allowed to wear their native clothing. They could not use their language. The scars and grief from such treatment were devastating.
Yet, the people who advocated for such schools believed they were doing a good and helpful thing.
That's why in our Collect this week, we ask that God's grace go before us and after us. We need to be connected to God's unmerited mercy (grace) as we seek to do our good works.

Farmer’s Market Coming to Newport, October 25 & November 22, Noon–4pm
A monthly farmer’s market will be held adjacent to our parking lot. There will be up to ten vendors. The market is sponsored by Friends of Newport.
