Turn now, O God of hosts, look down from heaven;

preserve what your right hand has planted. Psalm 80:14
Sometimes we lose our connection to God. We can't feel God near us. We feel like God has abandoned us.
Our portion of Psalm 80 that we read this Sunday appears to come from that place. The Psalmist is recounting the ways God has saved the people and asks God to save them once again. The people are likened to a grape vine planted by God.
The people are going through some difficult times. The Psalmist cries out to God for relief. "Restore us" and pay attention to us, is the cry. We need you to take care of us, this vine you have planted.
Our lives are very different than they were six months ago. Most of us have limited our movements and gatherings with other people. We wash our hands more and wear masks. We have gone to more online meetings, helping us to keep in touch and not quite as satisfying as seeing each other in person.
Some of us know people who have gotten sick from this virus. Some of us know people who have died. We, like the Psalmist, cry out to God, "...preserve what your right hand has planted."

Join Hands is again looking to us for support for their Christmas program for children in need.
In light of the current situation, Darlene needs to know if you are able to help and how many children you are willing to support. Join Hands anticipates needing to help more children this year because of the effects of covid/job loss/etc. Please let Darlene know by October 7 how many children you can help. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause and making Christmas brighter for children in need.
Halloween Candy donations needed for gift bags at the Commons and Gardens.
Candy or monetary donations to purchase candy may be dropped off at the church by October 18.
Farmer’s Market Coming to Newport, October 25 & November 22, Noon – 4pm
A monthly farmer’s market will be held adjacent to our parking lot. There will be up to ten vendors. The market is sponsored by Friends of Newport.
