What a mighty prayer this is. We acknowledge that we want to please God. We acknowledge we cannot please God without God's help. Then we identify that the Holy Spirit is here with us and can direct and rule our hearts in all that we may do.
Even with these acknowledgements, all is not easy in this Christian life, is it? Sometimes our ears and hearts become stopped up and we cannot see the path Christ has laid for us to follow. Sometimes the messages we seem to get feel confusing or even terrifying. I mean, almost every time an angel appears in the Bible bringing some message from God, about the first thing said is, "Do Not Be Afraid."
So we pray. We pray for our senses to be clear. We pray to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We do this, because our very lives and salvation depend upon it.

The September items are: Canned Sweet Potatoes, Potatoes Flakes and Paper Plates.
Help fill our community food pantry!
Items that seem to be taken first include canned pasta meals, soups, and macaroni and cheese. Vegetables don't seem to get taken.
We are updating our military list for the prayers.

Financial donations will be accepted for the college boxes and cards and gift cards we send to college students. Please put College Boxes in the memo line.
Tree Distribution Help Needed, Thursday, September 28.
Volunteers are needed to go to the distribution site in Duncannon to help tag and sort plants and transport them, tubes and stakes back to Nativity to finish tagging and sorting for those who have requested pick-up from the church. Please see Rebecca if you are able to help.
Volunteer for the Perry County Warming Center
A volunteer information meeting will be held at the beginning of October for anyone who may be interested in volunteering to address your questions and concerns. Individuals or groups who have an interest in helping are welcome. Please email keepingperrywarm@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer or want more information before committing to volunteering. Details regarding the information meeting will be sent out to all those who email with an interest in the warming center. More info is posted in the undercroft or see Rebecca.
Perry County Warming Center is Seeking Temporary Contracted Staff to Coordinate Services in the Duncannon Area
The Center will be open from November 1 to February 29. Operating hours are 5pm to 7am daily, 7 days a week. Shifts are negotiable at this point. Duties include scheduling pre-screened volunteers, welcoming guests, completing intake paperwork, providing site orientation and oversight of the center during operating hours. If interested in learning more or applying, please see Rebecca.
Perry County Literacy Council Fundraising, Tröegs Brewery, Hershey, Wednesday, September 27, 11am – 9pm.
Show up any time between 11am and 9pm at Tröegs with a certificate in hand or on your phone and eat! Tröegs will reward PCLC by donating 20% of the food sales. Certificates are available at the back of the church.
Help set up and staff our table at Canal Day, Saturday, October 7.
Help is needed to get the materials, table and chairs to and from our location. Set up is 8am and take down is 3pm. Help is also needed to staff the table. Can be for an hour at a time. Let Rebecca know if you can help.

Positions open beginning January 1, 2024 are:
Vestry - 3 positions for 3-year terms from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026. Vestry meets 10 times a year via Zoom for 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a time convenient to the members.
Delegate and Alternate to 2024 Diocesan Convention - The convention is usually held in October on Friday night through Saturday. A business meeting is held via Zoom on Thursday evening prior. There are also 2 Convocation meetings, one in June and one in the fall prior to convention. If you are interested in any of these positions, see Wendy Day or Jill Hoover who are the nominating Committee.

Baked Goods Donations Needed for Join Hands BINGO Fundraiser
The baked good items would need to be delivered to Join Hands on Thursday, October 19 from 9am to 1pm OR delivered directly to the Dream Barn on Saturday, October 21 between 1pm and 3pm. If anyone is interested and intends to donate please let Rebecca or Michele know so we can pass the info along to Brooke at Join Hands. It will also be helpful to know if you plan to package items individually or if Join Hands will need supplies to separate them for individual sale.

See Gail Shull or Pat Szabo to purchase cards in various amounts to use at Giant, Weis, or Karn’s Stores or stop by the office. 5% of the cost of each card stays with the church and is used for outreach and mission projects.
Commons and Gardens Bags
If you’d like to make a donation for the Commons and Gardens bags, please write a check to the church and put Commons / Gardens in the memo line.
We will be providing gift bags to the residents of the Commons and Gardens again this fall. In September, residents will receive apple juice, activity books and pens. In October, residents will receive lunch bags with candy.

Saturday, September 30, 2023, 7pm, Charisse Baldoria – A Piano Dedication
Internationally acclaimed and multi award-winning Filipino-American pianist, Charisse Baldoria, dedicates the Cathedral’s recently restored Baldwin 9′ concert-grand piano with a programme of works inspired by islands in Southeast Asia and the Galapagos, including her own compositions. Tickets are $25 general seating and $5 for students.
Saturday, December 16, 2023, 7:30pm, A Cathedral Christmas
A combined mass choir of professional soloists and the St. Stephen’s Cathedral Choir perform Vivaldi’s famous “Gloria” alongside the romantic works of Dan Forrest and contemporary composers. A professional chamber orchestra will accompany the choir. This event will take place in the candlelit Nave of the Cathedral. This concert is free and our gift to the community.
