First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Debates about the monarchy and kings and queens have been in the news recently with the death of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth. While it may seem odd since the history of our country is that we broke away from England and did not want a monarch, we as Episcopalians are still tied to the monarch of England through the Anglican Communion.
Liturgists for our church have taken these words from 1 Timothy to heart. While we do not necessarily pray for the King or monarch, we do pray for our leaders. It is always a great time to pray for our leaders - for Mayors, Supervisors, Borough Council members, state representatives and Senators, governor, judges, United States Representatives and Senators, President and all in positions of leadership.
Love,
Rebecca+
