If then you have not been faithful with the dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? Luke 16:11
This Sunday we hear the parable from Luke 16 of the "dishonest manager." We hear Jesus say these words about the importance of being faithful with dishonest wealth.
Sometimes we believe we do everything on our own. We fail to acknowledge how God and many others are all a part of what we do in our lives. God has given us this beautiful earth and truly all we need to live a good life. It is dishonest wealth - we did not earn it. It is freely given.
Yet, how do we manage it? Are we generous with what we have? Do we hoard it? Given the statistics of poverty, growing income inequality, and environmental degradation, it seems like we have not been faithful with the "dishonest" wealth God has given us.
Our community comes together to do our best to steward this "dishonest" wealth God has given us. We do that through our annual Giving to Others donations, and Join Hands and Food Bank support. What more can be do individually and as a community?

G.I.F.T.: Growing in Faith Together
Godly Play is today.
Today at Parlor People, the discussion will be on the Latino Center of Juniata County led by Judy Robinson and Nataly Barragan.
Nataly Barragan is a Chicana advocate originally from Los Angeles, California. She relocated to Pennsylvania to support her partner in his PhD program and is currently completing her premedical coursework at Penn State. She earned her B.A. in Chicana/Chicano Studies, with a concentration in Labor, Law and Policy Studies, from UCLA and is passionate about the intersections of prevention science, social justice advocacy, and health equity. She hopes to apply to medical school in the future and provide equitable health care for undeserved communities.
Judy Robinson grew up in Dauphin County (Middle Paxton Township) and attended the University of Iowa. She has a B.A. In Spanish and worked for over 30 years with various social service agencies in Harrisburg. She spent her career as an advocate for those who live in poverty, primarily focusing on Latin communities. After retiring, she moved to Honey Grove (Juniata County) and now lives about two miles from her father's birthplace. Recognizing the lack of services in Juniata County for those who speak Spanish, she helped organize the Welcome Center to try to address these unmet needs. In addition to volunteering weekly at the Welcome Center, she also volunteers on Saturday mornings at the Juniata County Food Pantry.
Next week, Jonathan Martz from Perry Human Services will join us.
