Dedication of the Organ

secretary September 20, 2018
This Sunday (September 23, 2018) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect for Proper 20, Book of Common Prayer, p. 234

There are certainly many things to be anxious about in our world today.  What kind of world will our children live in? Will we have enough money to last through the month? Will our health improve? Can we age well? Can we find another job that is more fulfilling?

Anxiety about a situation can be helpful in alerting us to things to which we must pay attention; however, being overwhelmed with anxiety and worry can harm our health.

Our Collect for this Sunday reminds us to hold these worries lightly. It reminds us to connect with God and to connect with God's teachings about life. It reminds us that much passes away, including the things that worry us today.

I loved living along the Susquehanna river and walking in Riverfront park nearly every day. At one point in time, I could look out my living room window and see the river and look out from my office window and see the river. It was so helpful, because I knew that river had flowed for thousands of years. Watching that water flow, helped me put my daily worries in perspective.

I pray that you not be anxious about earthly things and find peace in things heavenly.

Many blessings as you finish your work week.

Love, Rebecca+
