Dear Friends,
Earlier this week, I informed you that I was resigning as Rector of the Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen. I know that times of transition can bring anxiety for some of us. We are moved out of our usual routine. Because we have been walking with each other in faith for over eight years now, this is a change to our life together.
Our Collect this week reminds us not to be anxious about earthly things. We are not to be anxious about these changes, because we keep our focus on God and on Jesus Christ. All of the earthly things will pass away. All will change. The one constant is God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Our triune God has carried our parish along since 1889 (and even earlier as people met in various places around Newport.) The parish weathered floods, pandemics (not only Covid, but the 1918 flu), wars, hard times. The buildings still stand and each week people still come to worship, pray and work together.
It is an amazing legacy. I am grateful to have been a part of this faith community for a time. I pray for your continued work in continuing the legacy in service to God and this community.

Perry County Literacy Council Fundraising, Tröegs Brewery, Hershey, Wednesday, September 27, 11am – 9pm.
Show up any time between 11am and 9pm at Tröegs with a certificate in hand or on your phone and eat! Tröegs will reward PCLC by donating 20% of the food sales. Certificates are available at the back of the church.
Volunteer for the Perry County Warming Center
A volunteer information meeting will be held at the beginning of October for anyone who may be interested in volunteering to address your questions and concerns. Individuals or groups who have an interest in helping are welcome. Please email keepingperrywarm@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer or want more information before committing to volunteering. Details regarding the information meeting will be sent out to all those who email with an interest in the warming center. More info is posted in the undercroft or see Rebecca.
Perry County Warming Center is Seeking Temporary Contracted Staff to Coordinate Services in the Duncannon Area.
The Center will be open from November 1 to February 29. Operating hours are 5pm to 7am daily, 7 days a week. Shifts are negotiable. Duties include scheduling pre-screened volunteers, welcoming guests, completing intake paperwork, providing site orientation and oversight of the center during operating hours. If interested in learning more or applying, please see Rebecca.
Help set up and staff our table at Canal Day, Saturday, October 7.
Help is needed to get the materials, table and chairs to and from our location. Set up is 8am and take down is 3pm. Help is also needed to staff the table. Can be for an hour at a time. Let Rebecca know if you can help.

Positions open beginning January 1, 2024 are:
Vestry - 3 positions for 3-year terms from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026. Vestry meets 10 times a year via Zoom for 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a time convenient to the members.
Delegate and Alternate to 2024 Diocesan Convention - The convention is usually held in October on Friday night through Saturday. A business meeting is held via Zoom on Thursday evening prior. There are also 2 Convocation meetings, one in June and one in the fall prior to convention. If you are interested in any of these positions, see Wendy Day or Jill Hoover who are the nominating Committee.
