The Lord loves the righteous;
the Lord cares for the stranger; *
he sustains the orphan and widow,
but frustrates the way of the wicked. Psalm 146:8
These ancient Psalms we read each week often show God's preference for the poor, the widow, the orphan, the righteous. They show God's judgement against the wicked.
How do we show we are followers of God? How do we show a preference for caring for the poor, widows and orphans? How do we follow the righteous path?
Those are the questions we must continually ask ourselves.
We have so many examples of how we as a community work together to care for our neighbors, especially those who are poor. We have our little food pantry. We collect items for the Food Bank. We provide items and gift bags to the people living at the Commons and Gardens. We often provide assistance to families when they have a new baby, especially providing a crib and bedding.
Together we make things happen and make lives better. Let us continue to be a blessing to people who are strangers to us, poor, orphans and widows.
Love,
Rebecca+
