This Sunday (September 3, 2023) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

This Sunday

Michele Neibert, Parish Administrator August 30, 2023
This Sunday (September 3, 2023) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Romans 12:9-13

The passage from Romans that we hear this Sunday is one of my favorites. I even memorized it because I liked it so much. Every sentence contains so much to meditate upon. It is a short, although pretty comprehensive guidance for life.

At the heart, of course, is love and some pretty specific guidance for how it looks when we love one another. Love must be genuine. Love holds on to what is good. Love is mutual. Love shows honor. Love is exuberant. Love serves God. Love rejoices in hope. Love is patient in suffering. Love perseveres in prayer. Love contributes to what others need. Love extends hospitality to strangers.

May you feel that love. May you extend that kind of love.

Blessings,

Rebecca
