This Sunday (September 4, 2016) at The Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen

This Sunday

Worship at St. Stephen, 55 E. Main St., Thompsontown, PA

The Rev. Rebecca Myers August 31, 2016

Happy are they who have not walked in the counsel of the wicked, *
nor lingered in the way of sinners,
nor sat in the seats of the scornful!

Their delight is in the law of the Lord, *
and they meditate on his law day and night. Psalm 1:1-2

Our readings this week focus on discipleship and the consequences of our relationship with God. Our Psalm reminds us that when we walk with God or linger with God or sit with God, we will be happy.

Our Psalm reminds us to reflect upon God's laws every hour of our day. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 sums up the law in this way:

Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

We are encouraged to reflect upon these words every day. What does it mean that God alone is our Lord? How does that look throughout our day? How does our love of God with all of our heart and with all of our soul and with all of our might look each day?

Our embodiment and representation of the law in the way we live our lives will be happiness.

Blessings and you finish your week!

Love, Rebecca+

Latino/Latina Heritage Month to be observed Sunday, September 11.
This is a reminder that we are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We will say The Lord's Prayer in Spanish and sing some new hymns from Latino traditions.

Start practicing now:
Padre nuestro, que estas in el cielo
santificado sea tu Nombre,
venga tu reino,
